Istvan Szabo (1938-)

 

L’une des figures majeures du jeune cinéma hongrois des années 1960 avec des œuvres intimistes et autobiographiques qui explorent la mémoire, il se fait connaître internationalement avec Mephisto (1981), qui remporte l’Oscar du meilleur film étranger. Il enchaîne avec Colonel Redl (1985) et Hanussen (1988), tous deux multi récompensés, puis poursuit sa carrière avec des œuvres comme Sunshine (1999) et Taking Sides (2001).

Istvan Szabo (1938-)

 

One of the leading figures of the young Hungarian cinema of the 1960s, known for his intimate and autobiographical works exploring memory, he gained international recognition with Mephisto (1981), which won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. He followed it with Colonel Redl (1985) and Hanussen (1988), both highly acclaimed, and went on to direct films such as Sunshine (1999) and Taking Sides (2001).
