Max Ophuls (1902-1957)

Max Ophuls (1902-1957)

Coming from the theater, he entered the world of cinema at the dawn of the talkies and immediately made his mark (Liebelei). His Jewish origins forced him to leave Germany for France, where he built a solid reputation as a director. However, he had to go into exile once again. In Hollywood, he directed several films (Letter from an Unknown Woman, Caught, The Reckless Moment) before returning to France to make La Ronde, Le Plaisir, Madame de…, and Lola Montès.
